How should you buy your DJ equipment turntables: New or Used?
If you’re looking to become any type of DJ, you will need some turntables. If you are new to buying turntables or haven’t done it before, then you might not know what you should buy or whether or not you should buy used or new turntables. In this article, I will try and help you and give you a little insight into the different factors you will need to take into account when buying DJ equipment turntables.
A lot of turntables can be very expensive, especially if you require two turntables in order to do any mixing it all. Also, if you’re just starting out or just learning to DJ then money maybe a huge concern. Although this may be the case, you will also need to keep in mind exactly what you will be getting when you purchase used DJ equipment turntables.
Although they might seem like a bargain when compared to buying new ones, you need to ask yourself a few questions. Why are these people selling their turntables at such a cheap price? Is there something wrong with the item that they aren’t telling me about? Are they looking to cash in on broken or damaged equipment? Is the equipment stolen? If you don’t take into account all of these questions then you may be buying the broken or stolen equipment.
A lot of the time when you buy used equipment, there will not be any problems with the equipment until you start mixing. I know first-hand that this is the case. I once bought some used DJ equipment for a friend who wanted to pursue a DJ career, when my friend went to hook the turntables up to his computer, he ran into a variety of problems. The person that I bought the equipment from was nowhere to be found, and I was stuck with this broken and faulty equipment.
All I’m trying to say, is that although cost maybe a large issue when buying new DJ equipment turntables, there is no use buying either broken or faulty equipment even if it is at a bargain price. You have to remember that buying brand-new turntables will always be the better option as new turntables often come with a guarantee and will have a much longer life than used turntables.
For me, I always feel much safer buying brand-new equipment as opposed to use equipment. This may be due to the bad experiences I’ve had in the past, but I still believe that if you are going to do something, it is worth doing right.
If you are really determined to become a DJ then I highly recommend that you buy brand-new turntables and other DJ equipment, this will serve you well in the long term. Although money may be an issue, if it is really your ambition to become a good DJ then you will find the money from somewhere.
