Four reasons why I chose a digital DJ software package

Running a mobile disco in a very demanding  job, I know this first hand as I have done it for many years. However, with DJ software getting even more common, cheaper and easier to use, it is getting even harder to choose the correct package. There are many different factors to take into account when choosing your digital DJ software and in this article I will give you a brief guide as to what these factors are and how I decided on the particular DJ software that I use today.

1) Ease of use and simplicity of design – When you are DJing out on the road, you can be working quite a fast pace, you will be choosing records, taking requests whilst all the time keeping an eye on the dance floor. It is because of this that I rate the ease of use and the simplicity of design extremely highly when it comes to choosing DJ software. It is important for any DJ to be confident in the system that they are using, this confidence is gained from having a simple piece of software that is easy to use and won’t overload you with features.

2) An easy to navigate track library – This point is directly related to my first point. If you want to find a track then you want to find it fast. You don’t want to mess around navigating through menus and menus in order to get where you want. Long gone are the days where you could not find the track you wanted, as it is now organised in an easy-to-use and easy to navigate library of music. Because you spend much less time searching for the song you want, this will give you a lot more time to study the dance floor and decide which song will be best to play.

3) Auto play – Another very important factor is a good auto play system. As a DJ, you may be asked to play at different events such as weddings. With a good auto play system you will simply be able to leave the system running through its own set playlist while you wander off for a drink or a bite to eat. Just remember not to wander too far away.

4) Beat matching, Beat control, BPM detection – As I’ve pointed out before, as the DJ you will be asked to play at a variety of events. For example, you may be asked to play at 18 or 21st birthday party. At one of these types of parties it is important to play music that is current and you will need a good piece of DJ software to make a set list that is relevant to the event. You should aim to find a piece of DJ software that offers features that you need without filling up your computer to with useless information and features.

Once you are taking into consideration all the things I listed above, then you are ready to get yourself a DJ software package. Remember, a lot of the commercial versions of DJ software are available for a free trial download online. This is very useful and you should make use of these free trials as you will be able to test and try the software before you buy it.
